“Lester’s USP is his supreme mastery of all possible varieties of basses and his use of them as lead instruments…his understated virtuosity demands attention!” -Maverick Magazine
Since the late 90's John Lester has been wowing audiences with his solo bass/vocal performances. While the heart of his show is his upright bass, Sarah, John also employs all his bass instruments, as well as a stereo loop recorder, to create live arrangements for his award winning songs. Bass Bureaucracy is a new project that takes his live looping to the next level with the use of 4, 5, and 6 string extended range basses and guitars and an array of effects to recreate studio quality tracks in a live performance.
Bass Bureaucracy also features guest bassists and drummers. Recent shows have included drummer/percussionists Celso Alberti (Steve Winwood, Airto, Joyce Cooling), Phil Hawkins (Pete Escovedo, Ray Obieto), and Paulo Baldi (Cake, Les Claypool) in a live bass & drum setting. John has also worked with top bassists in the "solo bass" field including Michael Manring and Steve Lawson. Bass Bureaucracy is currently recording new material and will be releasing tracks and videos as singles starting in Fall 2015.
