John Lester: Home
Welcome to the official website of bassist/vocalist/songwriter John Lester. Originally from San Francisco, John spent the last 10 years living and playing in Europe. He recently relocated to New York City where he plays locally as well as continuing to tour internationally. The centerpiece of John's show is his unique solo performance with just his upright bass and his voice. He also plays electric 4, 5, and 6 string bass guitars, as well as nylon string acoustic guitar, and utilizes loop recorders in his show. In jazz venues John works in both trio and quartet formats ((bass/vocal, sax and drums for trio, and bass/vocal, piano, sax, and drums for quartet). John has received two "Song of the Year" awards from the Northern California Songwriters Association, as well as "Best Jazz Song" and "Best Humorous" Song from West Coast Songwriters. He is currently recording his 4th CD, which will be released in early 2012.
